In film noir, nothing is what it seems. Secrets lurk beneath every conversation, betrayals are inevitable, and danger is always just around the corner. The antiheroes of noir move through a world that is cruel, morally ambiguous, and unforgiving. They know that when a rare opportunity appears, it must be taken—because it might be their last.
Step into the shadowy world of film noir and discover a universe where desire turns dangerous and love can be lethal.
This course offers an exciting introduction to the analysis of film noir, one of the most seductive and enduring genres in cinema history. Together, we will unravel its visual style, decode its hidden tensions, and explore the psychological depth that lies beneath its polished surfaces.
Through iconic films, you will encounter unforgettable characters, haunting atmospheres, and stories that blur the line between passion and destruction:
Laura (1944), starring Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews, directed by Otto Preminger — a hypnotic tale of obsession, illusion, and the elusive nature of truth.
Leave Her to Heaven (1945), starring Gene Tierney, directed by John M. Stahl — a stunning and unsettling portrait of love pushed to its darkest extremes.
Whether you are new to film noir or looking to deepen your understanding, this course invites you to see beyond appearances and enter a world where every glance hides a secret—and every choice has consequences.
